bayonet
The bayonet was a small blade attached to a musket or rifle. Used in the Revolutionary War, many soldiers feared bayonets, because their dull blades caused them to rip the flesh of a target, making wounds prone to infection. In the beginning of the war, only British soldiers knew how to properly use them, but eventually, the Americans discovered how to wield them.
