Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was an important event. Carried out by the Sons of liberty on December 16, 1773, this action was one of the primary actions leading to the American Revolution. Irritated by the Tea Act, the act that put a tax on tea and only allowed purchase of tea from the British, patriots told the British to remove 3 tea carrying ships from Boston Harbor. When the British refused, the sons of liberty decided to take action. Dressed as Mohawk Indians and armed with hatchets, the Sons of liberty boarded the ships and without damaging the actual boat, broke the boxes holding the tea and threw the contents into the water. Once the British found out, they punished the town by closing Boston Harbor, only to escalate the tensions growing.
