green Mountain boys
The Green Mountain Boys started out as a group of farmers and landowners, and formed in 1770 to protect New Hampshire colonists from having their land taken by New York officials. When the Revolutionary War began, word got out to the Continental Army that there was a group of potential allies. Benedict Arnold recruited the Green Mountain Boys to assist them in their struggles against Britain. This led to the capture of FOrt Ticonderoga by the Green Mountain Boys and the Continental Army in 1775. They continued to fight although they did not see themselves as part of the Continental Army.
